Plettenberg Bay, Garden Route, is a horseshoe shaped bay approximately 10km from Hunter's Country House. Christened “Bahia Formosa” (beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers, it is named so for its beautiful scenery and temperate Mediterranean climate. Plettenberg Bay is a popular holiday resort during both the warm summers and cool winters, offering a wide variety of activites to keep visitors entertained throughout the seasons and a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Whales, dolphins and other marine life frolic in the sea swell off the beautiful golden shores and white beaches near Lookout Rocks during the months of July to October. Boat cruises are available to take visitors out into the bay to experience the great variety of marine life. Plettenberg Bay offers a myriad of activities for sport lovers including hiking, canoeing, skydiving, hanggliding, mountain biking and various watersports.

Lying at the foot of the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains are indigenous forests that consist of a unique mix of fynbos and temperate rain forest. Various world-renowned trails wind through the forests and provide hikers the opportunity to see South Africa’s last remaining forest elephants in their natural habitat. A variety of almost 300 different bird species can be found in the diverse habitats ranging from fynbos to forest to wetlands.

The famous Bloukrans River Bridge bungee jump is another famous attraction to the area. It is the highest commercial bungee jump in the world at 216 meters, and guarantees a powerful adrenaline rush.

The main street in Plettenberg Bay is lined with cafés and shops that provide retail therapy for those who’ve had enough of the outdoors. Pubs, night-spots and restaurants keep the magical seaside town alive at night.
